  Directions: The History of Science Collections are located on the 5th floor of Bizzell Memorial Library. The Library is in the heart of the main campus, between the south and north ovals. Enter Bizzell Memorial Library on the west side, near the clock tower visible from Elm St. The Circulation desk will be on your right. Take the elevators next to the Circulation desk to the 5th floor. When you step out, the History of Science Collections will be on your left. Ring the doorbell and the attendant at the front desk will remotely unlock the door – when the buzzer sounds, just pull the door open (you don’t need to turn the doorknob).

  Researchers: We encourage researchers to contact the Collections prior to visiting, particularly given the renovation now underway for the 2014-2015 academic year. The History of Science Collections complies with ACRL/SAA Joint Statement on Access to Research Materials in Archives and Special Collections Libraries. Users are required to follow access procedures and complete access forms during research visits. See the links under “Guides for Researchers” in the right margin of this page, particularly the OUHOS Researchers Introduction to the Collections. Researchers must present a valid photo I.D. (Student I.D., passport, U.S. driver’s license, etc.) and register with the Curator or Librarian before receiving vault items (we encourage researchers to schedule a registration appointment in advance). Most rare books and manuscript materials are paged to the Roller Reading Room, which provides a comfortable setting in which to work. Patrons should allow up to 24 hours for items to be paged; advance notice of desired materials is encouraged; contact the Registrar and/or the Research Coordinator for more information.

  Hours: Typical hours during the academic year when classes are in session are 9-7 Mon-Thurs, 9-5 Fridays, and noon to 4 on Saturdays. During summer and semester breaks, the Collections close at 5 and are not open on weekends. The Collections are closed during spring break. The Exhibit Hall closes at 4 p.m. except by arrangement, and is open on football home game days until kickoff.

  • Digitization request: We cannot yet digitize on demand. Nevertheless, we welcome your input. Let us know of the work you would like to see digitized as an individual title or for inclusion in one of our digital projects.
