Technology and Engineering exhibit

Are family coming to Norman this summer?

Consider showing them the current exhibit in the Collections. “Technology and the Early Printed Book” features the early works of Leonardo da Vinci (image, right); and Galileo’s own copy of his first and rarest book. Also on display are early printed works on ancient and Renaissance engineering; an image of a water-driven automated organ (below); works on acoustics; architecture; mining and metallurgy; natural magic; and depictions of machines of water, air & steam by Hero of Alexandria, Vitruvius, Agricola, Ramelli, Giambattista della Porta, Kircher, and others. No appointment is necessary.

This exhibition honors the centennial of the OU College of Engineering. It will be available through the end of July. We are planning a sequel exhibition for August, which will show outstanding technology and engineering works of the last 200 years. Stay tuned, and don’t miss this first exhibition!

For interesting information about the books on display, pick up a brochure when you enter the Collections, or download it here beforehand.

To visit the Collections, enter Bizzell library on the west side, by the clock tower. Take one of the elevators by the Circulation Desk. The Collections are immediately on your left as you exit the elevator on the 5th floor.
